BENGALURU: Kannada film actor Chetan Chandra sustained injuries after a group of about 20 men beat him up near Kaggalipura, Kanakapura taluk, Sunday night.

Based on Chandra’s complaint, cops arrested two men from Kaggalipura.

However, the spouse of one of the men filed a complaint against Chandra, accusing him of beating her up, resulting in the group attacking the actor.

Trouble began when a motorbike and Chandra’s car brushed against each other near Somanahalli at 8pm. A heated argument broke between Kiran Kumar, who was riding the bike, and Chandra. Both left the spot in a huff.

A little later, Kiran and pillion rider Harish spotted Chandra’s car near a bakery in Kaggalipura. The three had another round of argument and in no time, a group gathered and beat up Chandra. With a bleeding nose and injuries on his face, Chandra recorded his version of the incident and uploaded it on social media.

Meanwhile, Kiran’s wife Aishwaraya told police Chandra abused and attacked her near the bakery when she tried to intervene during the scuffle. When Chandra allegedly showed his middle finger to her, the crowd beat him up, the complaint said.

While Chandra’s attackers have been booked under IPC Section 324 (Voluntarly causing hurt by dangerous weapon or means), Chandra has been booked under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 354 (outraging modesty of women).

According to an investigating officer, Chandra was driving back from a temple when the incident took place. His friend was accompanying him at that time. “We have registered the case and counter-case. We arrested Kiran, a private company employee from Kaggalipura, and Harish and released them on station bail. Once Chandra recovers from injuries, we will record his statement in connection with Aishwarya’s complaint,” the officer said.
